Why You Should Go to a Chiropractor
Somerset Chiropractor: Part of the chiropractic approach involves determining whether the body’s natural structure has caused problems with the functions in other areas of your body because of reactions in the nervous system. Structural changes can affect the nerves and the spinal cord by affecting the normal communication of information from the brain to the rest of the body.
Along with specialized chiropractic treatment, Michaelene Callahan, DC and the team at Axis Chiropractic Center will provide you with rehabilitation exercises, advice on posture and stress management and nutritional advice. The most important aspect of chiropractic care is the comprehensive approach to treatment and management of a patient’s unique condition.
About Chiropractic Care
The non-invasive, drug-free, hands-on approach focuses on patient examination, diagnosis and customized treatment. Through diagnostics, we are trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises to patients. We also recognize the importance and health-related benefits of nutrition and proper lifestyle choices.
At its most basic, chiropractors perform a therapeutic procedure called spinal adjustment or chiropractic manipulation.
In most cases, back pain emanates from the misalignment (called vertebral subluxation) of the spinal vertebrae. The subluxation, basically an impinged nerve, causes irritations of the spinal nerve which in turn inhibits the normal nerve flow from the brain to the tissue. A gentle chiropractic adjustment is used to realign the spine.
Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs and headaches. Some of the common conditions we treat include:
- Neck pain
- Headaches (including migraine headaches)
- Low back pain
- Sciatica (pain down the leg or down the arm)
- Carpal tunnel
- Knee pain
- Ankle and foot problems
- Rotator cuff and tennis elbow
- Glandular imbalances
- Sleep problems
- TMJ disorder
- Recurring infections
- Herniated Disc
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- and More…
The Activator Method
The Activator Method is a unique chiropractic therapy utilized by Dr. Callahan at Axis Chiropractic Center. The treatment therapy uses a small hand-held instrument referred to as a Activator Adjustment Instrument and delivers a gentle impulse force to the spine. It is different from traditional chiropractic adjustments because of it provides for a more gentle adjustment and benefits patients who may not be fit to handle a highly velocity low amplitude thrust (HVLA).
Common conditions treated via the Activator method are:
- Back Pain
- Neck Pain
- Headaches (both chronic and migraine)
